From our collections: 1860 Town Report
Welcome to the web site of the Limington Historical Society. Since 1975 the LHS has endeavored to preserve Limington's historical heritage and to share its information and cultural assets with everyone. We are archivists, curators, restorers, storytellers and performers of just about any job imaginable that will help maintain the rich cultural identity of our beloved small town, which was established in 1792. Some of the buildings in our historical district date back to that period.
Numerous buildings in Limington village have been registerd as national historical places, and there are many more places of interest, historical or otherwise, elsewhere in Limington, from the Limington Rips to Brackett's Orchard, and the Sawyer Mountain Trail. The society maintains the memories of these places and the people who lived in them. Photographs, diaries and records from our archives are living documents that sustain the spirit and identity of this small town, remarkably preserved for over two centuries.
We are always seeking new members, and always welcome volunteers and the general public to get in touch with us or visit. We encourage you to find out a little more about what we do, and how we do it. There are no requirements to join our membership, other than a desire to share our interests. Our membership form , which includes general information, makes it easy for you to join the Society.
